I Wonder Questions

I wonder….

Below are some follow- up questions to continue the discussion and connect after watching the videos.  They are not meant as an assignment, nor does it matter if they are right or wrong, but meant to pique interest, imagination and higher thought.  Often we remember better our own answers, or what we have to figure out ourselves, than the ones that are told to us, so see what your student comes up with (siblings welcome to participate).  Choose what appeals.

Garden class 21:

  1. Why did Farmer Ladybug’s marigold seeds not grow?
  2. How are ladybugs more frightening than copperheads to Farmer Ladybug?
  3. What is the difference between a true life story and a story made from imagination?
  4. Do you think Farmer Ladybug's imagination affected her memory of events in the story?
  5. How can "what is true" be different for different people? How does this impact science?
  6. What is the line that is long and pointing to the East that Farmer Ladybug is talking about on the sundial?
  7. What time do you estimate it is when Farmer Ladybug and Cob-weaver are planting based on the sun?

Garden class 20:

  1. Why did Farmer Ladybug caution about using soil from Fort Ord?  Why would it be illegal to dig up the soil?  Where would soil be protected?  What other natural resources are protected and why?
  2. Why does Farmer Ladybug talk about the roots of plants?  Does it matter what kind of roots a plant has and how well it can compete against other plants for spacing?  Does it tell us which plants grow well together? (Hint: recall the roots of the 3 sisters)
  3. Which garden bed at school is done in the lazy garden style? What other kitchen scraps can you regrow? How can you garden indoors, lazy style?
  4. Why do you think Native Americans on the central coast did not farm (before Europeans)?
  5. Why were all the wild plants in Farmer Ladybug’s yard from Europe?
  6. What kind of clues from the videos let you where Farmer Ladybug lives (it doesn’t count if you’ve been to her house already)?
  7. Why should we protect our names when we post on social media?
  8. How does Spring make you feel?  What signs do you sense that it is Spring?
  9. How was Orochimaru taken over by snake power?  Could it really be that strong, so that he is lost in it without the help of his friends?  Is there force like this in your life?
  10. How does technology help maintain our connections with people? How does it hurt?
